1. We have one car. I walk to work, and almost everywhere else...and when we buy our new house; it will be close to work.

2. We buy Organic Produce and Earth Friendly products that use less petroleum oil and no toxins. If we can, we make our own cleaners with baking soda and vinegar.

3. Even though we are boaters, we have chosen a sail boat. It uses very little fuel, and it is a diesel. We tend to sail rather than motor!

4. We choose our vacation spots nearby so we spend as little time as possible in an airplane.

5. When we make purchases we consider how far it had to travel to get to us. When we bought our dining room table, we chose a table that had been made with fallen alder, and the company used environmentally friendly finish on it. It was made in Duncan, so didn't have to be transported from off island.

Bustin out a tune for Mother Earth
  1. I eat vegetarian at least two days a week. By the end of the year, it will be three.
  2. I ride my bike or walk to where I need to go whenever I can. I do this every day, weather permitting.
  3. I make lists of things to do before my day begins. This ensures that everything I do is grouped together and efficient. Making too many trips to town is a waste of time so I like to keep my game tight with some basic planning.
  4. I have created an arts and crafts supply box that has reused supplies in it like ribbon, wrapping paper and old cards. These items come in handy when I want to get creative and make crazy presents.
  5. I only buy clothing that is guaranteed to last a long time. Fashion is great but purchasing for the long haul is my bag. I buy products that are made by socially and environmentally conscious manufacturers that use sustainable fabrics like bamboo - whenever possible.
